Vast quantities of fuel pumping out brute energy to propel a massive phallic tube through the earth's atmosphere. Even Watt's 1765 steam engine, or Newcomen's earlier one of 1712, seems more sophisticated. So no, it's not rocket science. It's a bit more complicated.
